Located in Kotwali Bazaar of Dharamsala, Kangra Art Gallery was initiated in 1990. It holds an extraordinary collection of artworks, great artefacts, traditional costumes and other historic treasures, which can be traced to as far back as the 5th century. 

Kangra Art Gallery displays a variety of items that include ancient wood carvings and tribal jewellery, artsy sculptures and pottery, anthropological objects, a variety of coin collection range, old manuscripts and few royal tents, shamianas, pandals etc.

Kangra Art Museum has an unusual library and a separate section to display the artworks of contemporary artists, sculptors and photographers. 

There is also an art gallery that holds excellent specimens of famous Kangra Kalam works and the Pahari miniature paintings and the other exquisite art that are being actively promoted from the museum. 

This school of painting is renowned for the use of seductive figures and fine colours. It is said to be a pictorial depiction of the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh. 

The colours used in this style of painting are 100 percent natural colours, which are extracted from dried-up flowers and herbs and this art form has a strong thematic base. The most popular miniature paintings of the Kangra School portrays the historical, religious and traditional backdrop of the royalty and the courts of the former rulers of Kangra that belonged to the Katoch dynasty.

Kangra Art Gallery is located in Kotwali Bazaar of Dharamsala.

After reaching Dharamshala you could take a cab or local transport facility to reach Kangra Art Gallery.
