After the revolution of 1917, a Russian named Nicholas Roerich settled down in the beautiful hills of the Himalayas. He was a skilled painter, who dreamt of uniting the world through art. Roerich Art Gallery is placed amidst well-tended gardens and has a classic setting for the display of artworks. The whole ambience elegantly captures the essence and charm of Himalayas, just like the ingenious strokes of the brush by an expert.

The present Roerich Art Gallery housing building was the former residence of N. K. Roerich and was turned into the Art Gallery by his son Svyetoslav Roerich. 

The Himachal Pradesh Government and Russian Government have made a trust, directed by the Prime Minister of India, to run this Roerich Art Gallery as the Roerich Heritage Museum. The small room on the ground floor of the museum displays paintings by the artist.

They highlight the fantastic texture of Himalayas from the eyes of a Russian, its intense and bright colours being emblematic of his origin country. 

You can also witness few photos of Nicholas on display here, such as the one in which he is posturing in his front Lawn with Jawahar Lal Nehru. The original work of Roerich on the Himalayas, along with his quotes and words of wisdom as well as those of the visitors and admirers of the gallery, have also been put on display here.

HOW TO REACH THE ROERICH ART GALLERY:

Nicholas Roerich Art Museum is located in Naggar town in Himachal Pradesh. You can go on a road trip to Naggar. 

You can either choose to travel by bus, by HRTC or private bus services to reach Manali. You can hire a taxi service to reach from Manali to Naggar, which is approximately 21kms.

VISITING TIMING:

Nicholas Roerich Art museum is open on all days of the week except Monday, from 9 AM to 5 PM.
