Shimla State Museum is placed on top of a hill, above the Chaura Maidan at Shimla. It is abode in a colonial building, known as Inverarm.  To reach the colonial mansion housing the museum, you have to hike about 1500 m, the rich historic collection displayed here definitely makes it worth the effort. Shimla State Museum has a valuable collection of anthropological objects, Pahari miniature paintings from the early 19th century and numismatic coin finds on display. All of these serve as pieces of evidence of the glorious cultural heritage and historical past of Himachal Pradesh. The artworks from ancient and modern times and excellent Pahari miniature paintings displayed here present the great art form of Northern India in its pure form, free from any Western influences that crawled in later.
