Tourism Sector Welcomes Progressive Measures in Budget 2024 Yet Calls for Industry Recognition

In a recent interview, Mr Vijay Tiwari, the Director of Sushant Travels Pvt Ltd, lauded the Union Budget 2024 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, describing it as progressive and growth-oriented for the tourism sector. Mr Vijay Tiwari expressed optimism about the positive impact the budget will have on tourism, highlighting key aspects discussed by the Finance Minister.

Mr Vijay Tiwari particularly commended the allocation of 11.1 lakh crore for infrastructure development, emphasizing its potential to boost tourism. He pointed out that the focus on improving airports is a welcome move, as it will enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother travel experiences for tourists. However, Tiwari suggested that including hotels in the infrastructure development plan could further amplify the positive effects on the tourism industry.

One of the standout features of the budget, according to Mr. Vijay Tiwari, is the substantial allocation of 75 lakh crore for the development of sacred and spiritual tourism. He praised this allocation, foreseeing benefits such as increased train services catering to the tourism sector. Additionally, Mr Vijay Tiwari highlighted the importance of the Finance Minister's emphasis on boat connectivity, particularly for islands like Lakshadweep, which he believes will open up new opportunities for tourism in those regions.

Despite expressing overall satisfaction with the budget, Mr. Vijay Tiwari raised a concern regarding the government's failure to designate tourism as a priority sector or officially recognize it as an industry. He emphasized the significance of acknowledging tourism as a key economic driver and requested that future budgets address this by according it the importance it deserves.

In summary, while applauding the budget's positive steps toward promoting tourism through infrastructure development and targeted allocations, industry insiders like Mr. Vijay Tiwari are urging the government to officially recognize and prioritize tourism as an industry sector in upcoming financial plans.
