Buddhism is a very ancient religion in India and its foundation stone was laid by a prince turned monk ‘Gautama Buddha’ around 2000 years back. Before the birth of the Buddha, Indian society had become self-centered and ritualistic. The ease and simplicity helped the extensive spread of Buddhism. The cryptic language of Vedic philosophy was difficult for the masses to understand. Buddhism has filled the gap by offering a way of decent and noble conduct to the common people. It is full of compassion and loving-kindness. This religion has thrived in India from the 3rd century BC. Masses of Buddhist pilgrims visit India every year in quest of utter serenity offered by Buddhist destinations. These destinations are linked to the life and sermons of Buddha in a significant way.
