In 1876, son of Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales, Lord Albert Edward, was visiting India. During that period, pink was taken to be the colour of hospitality. Hence, so as to welcome the international Royal guests with heartfelt hospitality, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh had the complete City painted in pink. Udaipur, the ‘City of Lakes’ is surrounded by Aravalli hills and valleys. At the center of the Udaipur city, there are Palaces and Monuments constructed from white marble, so that the city is varying shades of white, and this is called ‘White City’. Jodhpur, the ‘Sun City’ is blessed with bright weather throughout. The City is painted in blue to keep the city cooler, and thus the City became the ‘Blue City’. The construction of the Jaisalmer Fort and also many structures in the city is done from yellow sandstones. The city has sun-kissed desert land and the sky tinged with golden rays that reflect the yellow sandstones. No wonder, Jaisalmer is referred to as the ‘Golden City’. PLACES TO VISIT IN UDAIPUR, WHITE CITY:

• City Palace Udaipur: Built in the 16th century, by Maharaja Uday Singh, this Marble and Granite Palace has been added on to by Uday Singh’s descendants. The monuments housed in this palace include Sheesh Mahal, Durbar Hall, Badi Mahal, etc.
• Lake Pichola: Artificially built in the heart of the city in 1362, the Pichola Lake is breathtaking with different Palaces, Mahals, temples, etc adorning its banks. Boat riding a must here.
• Vintage And Classic Car Museum: Originally planned as Motor Garage for Mewar State, this museum was inaugurated in 2000 by the existing heir of the Mewar Dynasty.
• Eklingji Temple: This temple is dedicated to the Four-faced lord Shiva, Eklingji – the ruling God of Mewar rulers. The 50 ft black marble statue of Shiva is housed in a double-storied temple with pyramidal roof reaching the sky and lower stairs touching the water.

PLACES TO VISIT IN JODHPUR, BLUE CITY:

• Mehrangarh: Built at more than 400ft height in 1459, This Fort which was commissioned by Rao Jodha has been shot in many Indian as well as International movies like the Dark Knight Rises, the Lion King, etc. due to its majestic and scenic beauty. 
• Jaswant Thada: Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph made from intricately carved out marble, built in the name of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II by his son. Later on, this place became the Marwar Royal Famil’s cremation ground and is still used for the purpose. 
• Umaid Bhawan Palace: Built-in 1944, this is the last Royal palace built in Jodhpur. At present, it is a museum displaying the clothes, armor, artifacts used by the Royal family, combined with a heritage hotel; and a private property where the current Royal Family stays.
• Sardar Market: It is a local market bustling with small roads and number of shops selling all kinds of items from clothes to accessories, made by local handicrafts and is situated around the famous Clock Tower/ Ghanta Ghar of Jodhpur

PLACES TO VISIT IN JAISALMER, YELLOW CITY:

• Jaisalmer War Museum: This is a museum built-in the representation of the battle that made history – ‘the battle of Longewala’. It was inaugurated in 2015. Here, there is a display of a number of guns, tanks, etc of the Miltary. 
• Jaisalmer Fort: It is the one and only ‘living fort’ in India. At present, there are more than 3000 people staying here. This fort has a number of handicraft shops, clothes shops, and even beautiful restaurants.  
• Gadisar Lake: This is a 12th Century built reservoir. The lake has an adjacent fort and offers the tourists a mesmerizing view. You can go for boating here, shop from local stalls, or get a photo clicked in traditional costumes.

PLACES TO VISIT IN JAIPUR, PINK CITY:

• Hawa Mahal: Hawa mahal or the Palace of Wind is a pyramidal 5 storied structure resembling a honeycomb of the honey hive. This Palace is known for its 953 small windows or Jharokhas, which allows the breeze to come inside and the people to peek outside.  
• Amber Fort: A declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, atop the Aravalli Hills, lies pink and yellow sandstone constructed Amber/Amer Fort. It was built by Akbar’s general Maharaja Man Singh I, which was the main residence of Rajput Rulers. Getting an elephant ride up the fort is a favorite tourist activity here.
• Jantar Mantar: Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jantar Mantar was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. The main idea was to construct huge instruments instead of originally normal sized for increased accuracy in the calculation of positioning of sun, moon, stars, planets, etc.
• Chokhi Dhani: A visit to Chokhi Dhani is a must if you want a wholesome experience of Rajasthani cuisine, as it is an ethnic village resort in Jaipur.
